German painter, graphic artist and writer. After training as a master builder, he attended the Düsseldorf School of Arts and Crafts. This was followed by study visits to Paris and travels through Southern Europe and North Africa. He was a founding member and board member of 'Das Junge Rheinland', later of the 'Rheingruppe'.
