Around 1925. Bronze, silvered and gilt, partially cold painted, face and hands carved from ivory, h. 36,5 cm, sign. on the plinth 'P. Philippe.', foundry mark 'RM' by Rosenthal & Maeder, Berlin, dark-grey veined marble base, h. 2 cm. Minor wear. - Literature: A similar copy with folded hands see B. Catley: Art déco and other figures, London 1978, p. 261. - French painter and sculptor, studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Antonin Larroux, exhibited at the Paris Salon. Philippe is one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco and produced mainly works in bronze and ivory as well as Chryselephantine figures of exotic and Russian dancers.
