Oil/artist's board, 39,5 x 49 cm, lo. le. sign. a. dat. C. Gorbatoff 1927, on the reverse inscribed 'K. Gorbatoff 1927 Capri'. - Bought by the consignor's grandfather in February 1928, thence by descent. - Postimpressionist Russian landscape painter a. member of the Peredvishniki artist's group. G. began his professional training in 1891 at the Samara academy under F. E. Burov but moved to Riga a. St. Petersburg to continue his studies under N. N. Dubovskoij. In 1912/13 he went to Italy with a scholarship of the academy. In 1924 he emigrated to Italy before settling definitively in Berlin in 1928.
