Pastel, 44 x 35 cm, lo. ri. sign. Rudolf Bauer, framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - German-American painter a. illustrator. B. studied since 1905 at the Berlin Akademie der Künste. He was co-founder of the progressive artist's group 'Novembergruppe' in 1919, 1912-21 he worked for the leading German avantgarde magazine 'Der Sturm'. He emigrated to the US in 1939. He was a well-known avantgarde artist of his time, the Guggenheim museum exhibited his works together with those of W. Kandinsky.
