Around 1930. Bronze, black patinated. H. 26 cm. Signed HANS GERWING. Sitting horse with raised front hooves - German sculptor. G. received his training at the Kunstgewerbeschule Dortmund and later studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf as a master student of Karl Janssen and Richard Langer. In 1924 he won first prize in the competition organised by the city of Cologne for a Siegfried monument and worked in Cologne until 1928, then in Dortmund and Düsseldorf. His work is closely linked to the theme of mining, and he also created numerous small bronzes, such as figures of sportsmen, dancers and animals. Lit.: AKL Saur
