H. is the son of William Heinesen, the most important poet of the Faroe Islands. He studied painting at the Reykjavik and Copenhagen Academies in 1958-62. Since then he has been active on the Faroe Islands, whose landscape characterizes his works. His motifs can also be found on banknotes and stamps of the islands.
