Ivo Hauptmann 1920, on the stretcher inscribed 'Hiddensee, Strand mit Badenden' as well as exhibiton labels of the Freie Sezession Berlin 1920 and the Galerie Möller, on the frame label of the Kunsthaus Hamburg, min. rest. - Exhibition: The painting was exhibited: Freie Sezession Berlin 1920. - Provenance: Estate of Hilde von Lang, managing director and publisher of the German weekly newspaper 'Die Zeit', partner in life of Gerd Bucerius, founder of 'Die Zeit' and patron of the arts; auction house Stahl, 26.11.2001, lot 153; private collection Hamburg. - Landscape and figure painter, eldest son of the Nobel prize winner Gerhart Hauptmann. H. studied in Paris, under L. Corinth in Berlin and at the Weimar Academy. Among his friends were O. Müller, P. Signac and R. M. Rilke. H. was co-founder of the Freie Sezession Berlin. In 1925 he settled in Hamburg and became head of the Hamburg secession. Mus.: Paris (Louvre), Hamburg (Kunsthalle, Altonaer Museum), Schleswig (SHLM) a. others.
