German landscape painter. G. studied at the Kassel academy under A. Bromeis a. thereafter worked in Düsseldorf a. Berlin. He became famous for his motifs from the Rhine a. the sea, but most of all for his Norway subjects. G. was co-founder of the Ahrenshoop artist's colony a. member of the Düsseldorf artist's group 'Malkasten'. Mus.: Prague (Rudolphinum), Linz, Rostock a. others.
