German sculptor, medallist, painter and engraver, trained at the Berlin Academy of Art and initially worked as a freelance painter. From 1886 onwards, he worked as a sculptor and in 1893 was appointed professor at the Dresden Academy of Art. In 1895, he settled in Florence and maintained studios in Florence and Berlin. In 1895, he created his most famous work, the ‘Archer’, which can now be seen on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden-Neustadt and in the park of Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, among other places
