German expressionist painter. H. was a co-founder and active member of the Berlin Novembergruppe and a member of the Junges Rheinland artists' group. H. began studying painting in Berlin in 1911 under Lovis Corinth and Konrad von Kardorff and regularly exhibited at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition at Lehrter Bahnhof from 1916.
