Fritz König (Würzburg 1924 - Altdorf bei Landshut 2017) - Sell & Buy

German sculptor. From 1946-1952 K. studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste under A. Hiller and undertook travels to France and Italy. He subsequently exhibited both in Germany and internationally, partaking in Documenta II and the Venice Biennale amongst others. From 1964 onwards K. taught at the Technische Universität in Munich. Today K. is best known for the impressive public artworks he created, the most famous of which may be the 'Große Kugelkaryatide NY' for the World Trade Center. The artist received a wide variety of accolades throughout his career including the Große Bundestverdienstkreuz and the Bavarian Maximilianorden for Science and Art.
