Ulrich Beier (Flensburg 1928 - Reinbek 1981) - Sell & Buy
German sculptor, after an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor, studied sculpture with Richard Steffen in Hamburg from 1948-52, then worked as a freelance sculptor, member of Group 56 in Schleswig-Holstein. In his unmistakable handwriting, Beier created numerous archaic-looking works in wood, bronze and his preferred material, stone. His best-known works include the bronze 'Triade' (1964) for the Funkhaus in Hamburg, the double-faced stone head made of onyx (1969), which was presented as a state gift to Pope Paul VI in 1973, or the sundial (1976/77) in Mobile/Alabama. Lit.: Beier, Ulrich und Jens Christian Jensen. Ulrich Beier, Bildhauer. Hamburg, 1992
