Italian history painter, about whose life and training little is known. Obviously academically trained and schooled by masters such as Lawrence Alma-Tadema, his specialty were richly furnished and meticulously painted scenes from the life of the ancient Roman upper class. Again and again one sees elegant ladies in richly appointed and lavish interiors consuming luxury, sometimes even with erotic allusions. Between 1893 and 1897 F. also exhibited at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. Mus.: Albany. Lit.: AKL, Thieme-Becker.
