Vincenzo Camuccini (Rom 1771 - Rom 1844) - Artist


Italian history painter. C. learned painting in the studio of D. Corvi in Rome, where Raphael's art became the formative model for him. In 1802 he was admitted to the Accademia die San Luca, and in 1806-10 he was its president. C. developed into one of the leading classicists of his time and was subsequently admitted to many foreign academies. He also received commissions from the Pope and Napoleon and was also a sought-after portrait painter. In addition, he worked as a restorer and director of part of the Vatican collections.
