German painter a. graphic artist. C. began studying at the Stuttgart academy under J. Grünenwald, thereafter he studied at the Karlsruhe academy as master student of G. Schönleber a. L. von Kalckreuth. In 1898 he became teacher of the etching class, in 1902 he was made professor at the Karlsruhe academy. Mus.: Karlsruhe (Kunsthalle). Lit.: Saur, Thieme-Becker, Vollmer a. others.
