French still life painter, father of the engraver François D. Promoted by Franch aristocrats D. obtained a position at the royal court in Paris in 1646 a. probably shortly after travelled Italy. In 1663 he became 'agréé' of the Paris academy which later payed him a pension. D.s still life painting follows the development from the austere a. naturalistic style of old flemish painting to the gorgeous a. abundant style which was promoted at the court of Louis XIV.
