Cosmopolitan italian history and figure painter. P. was pupil of P. Pagani. He participated in the decoration of the Pontificia Biblioteca Antoniana in Padua in 1702, in 1708 he went to London with M. Ricci, since 1713 he worked for the Düsseldorf court. Thereafter he went among others to Antwerp, Paris and Vienna. Besides S. Ricci and J. Amigoni he ist the most important Venetian rococo painter.
