French painter a. graphic artist, was initially trained by R. Princeteau, since 1882 he was pupil of L. Bonnat a. F. Cormon but soon left behind academic realism, in 1887 he exhibited with the Belgian avantgarde artist's group 'Les Vingt', since 1889 he exhibited at the Paris Salon des Indépendants, he became the painter of the Paris Bohème, his graphic works are inspired by Japanese woodcuts a. captivate by their use of extensive surfaces a. colour contrasts, they are milestones of commercial art.
