German painter, graphic artist and photographer. K. studied at the Bauhaus with J. Albers, J. Schmidt, W. Peterhans, P. Klee and W. Kandinsky and then became an employee of the Bauhaus master H. Bayer in Berlin. He accepted a professorship in Hamburg, but was also a visiting professor in Japan and at Harvard University. Mus.: Hamburg (Kunsthalle), Bonn (Rhein. Landesmus.).
