Oil/wood, 42 x 33 cm, min. rest. - Flemish painter, one of the most important artists of all times. R. was taught painting in the studio of T. Verhaecht since 1592, in 1598 he was enrolled in the Antwerp painter's guild. He worked in many towns in Italy and Spain before returning to Antwerp in 1608, already a famous artist. Commissioned by European monarchs he worked in Paris, Spain and England, not only as a painter but also as diplomat. R. maintained a. prolific workshop, many paintings were made as collaboration of master and pupil. Mus.: St. Petersburg (Hermitage), Paris (Louvre), Florence (Uffizi), Madrid (Prado), Vienna (Kunsthist. Mus.), London (Nat. Gall.), Berlin (Nat.-Gal.) a. others.
