Around 1910. Bronze, head and hands carved ivory. Sign. to the top side of the plinth 'R. MARCUSE'. Polychrome patina lost, ivory min. chipped. Figure: H. 29 cm, eight-sided stone base: H. 10 cm. - Berlin sculptor, studied at the Berlin Art Academy under Ernst Herter, created small sculptures in Art Nouveau and Art Déco style mainly in bronze and porcelain (designs for KPM and Rosenthal) and also the monumentes of Moses Mendelsohn (Berlin) and Carl Hagenbeck (Stellingen). 1936 the artist emigrated to England and lived in London until his death.
