Oil/wood, 15 x 12 cm, on the reverse fragment of a seal. - In a nice contemporary frame. - Expertise: Gerhard Kölsch, Mainz, 26.7.19, confirms the authenticity. - Provenance: Private collection Niedersachsen - German portrait, figure adn history painter from a dynasty of painters. S. was initially trained by his elder brother, 1748-51 by Ph. Brinckmann in Mannheim. When in 1753 he became painter to the court in Darmstadt he made friends with the Goethe family in Frankfurt. Besides paintings in the rococo style he painted scenes from the bourgeois and rustic life not only of artistical but also great cultural-historical value.
