H. was taught painting at the Frankfurt Städelschule 1837-47, for a short term he also studied at the Düsseldorf academy. He supported the revolution of 1848 and was sent to prison after attacking the Frankfurt major in 1851. Later he emigrated first to France, then to America. Mus.: Frankfurt.
