Meissen, designed 1745, executed 2nd half 20th cent. Polychrome painted porcelain. Rich sculptural decor of various, partially exotic birds and flowers. Crossed swords mark (2 incised lines), form no. '60817'. Min. chipped. Clockwork (def.): white enameled dial with Arabic digits, brass plaque stamped: 'L.E.P JAPY CIE MEDAILLE', strike on bell. With key. H. 32,5 cm, w. 27,5 cm, d. 11 cm. - German porcelain modeller and sculptor, taught by the sculptor Thomae in Dresden, whose baroque influence is especially visible in his animal figures, in 1731 appointed court sculptor by August the Strong, at the same time beginning his work for porcelain manufacture Meissen, which he directs for many years, his works are among the highlights of early European porcelain.
