In 1906 he established an art school in Worpswede. He was co-founder of the 'Neue Scession' in Berlin in 1910, where works of the artist's groups 'Brücke' a. 'Blauer Reiter' were showcased. For many years before a. after WW II T. was professor at Berlin academies.
