1903. Bronze with brownish patina, h. 92 cm, sign. and dat. on the front side: G Minne 1903. - The bronze is based on a sketch (1898) for the fountain 'La fontaine aux agenouillés' representing one of the most important works by Minne. - Five identical, introvert naked youth are kneeling on the edge of a water basin. Minne created the fountain in several versions, in plaster (1898, Museum of Fine Arts, Gent), marble (1900 on behalf of the German collector Karl Ernst Osthaus, now Folkwang Museum, Essen) and bronze (versions in Gent, Place Emile Braunplein and Brussels, European Parliament). Single versions of the keeling youth exist as plaster model (1898, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne), in marble in Dresden, Staatl. Kunstsammlungen and New York, New Gallery. - A Flemish painter, draftsman and sculptor. One of the most important representatives of the Symbolism sculpture.
