Tempera, 52,5 x 38 cm, framed under glass. - Flemish-French flower painter. D. studied at the Antwerp academy before settling in Paris in 1786 where he worked on the decoration of royal houses. After the French revolution he specialized in flower painting a. exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon since 1793. Blending the precision of the Flemish tradition with a French intuition for decoration he became very successful. He sold among others to empress Josephine a. received many awards.
