Oil/cardboard, 35,5 x 26 cm. - German landscape a. figure painter, one of the main exponents of the Weimar painting school. H. studied 1863-68 at the Düsseldorf academy under O. Achenbach. As early as 1871 he became professor at the Weimar Kunstschule, the head of which he was 1876-81. He was member of the Berlin a. Munich secessions a. exhibited among others at the Berlin academy a. in the Munich Glaspalast. His most famous pupil is Christian Rohlfs.
