Oil/canvas, 91 x 74 cm, on the reverse inscribed 'Cristiana Amalia Ernestine de Schlaberndorff, née de Röell' as well as 'peint par Rosina Matthieu née Lizewska 1760', - German portrait painter from a family of artists. As early as 1730 she painted her first portrait for a noble commissioner, in 1740 she painted portrait of the later tsarina Catherine II. Since 1756 she was painter to the court in Zerbst, thereafter painter to the court in Brunswick. 1766/67 she was also in the Netherlands. Through her first marriage with the painter D. Matthieu she was stepmother to Georg David Matthieu. Her portraits in the tradition of A. Pesne captivate by their virtuosly painted surfaces.
