China, Tang Dynasty (618-907). Carved white marble. The finely carved full face framed by luscious hair arranged neatly in soft waves around the head forming a broad ushnisha atop. His small eyes slightly open under a high brow, the full lips boldy curved smiling mildly. His long earlobes and the bulging neck are further attributes of buddhahood. On a grey base.
