FR ad viv. pinx. 1764, dam., relined. - The term 'ad vivum' means that the artist worked with the sitter as model, and not after another painting or print; however the king is known to detest this exercise. Frederick the Grat (1712-1786) is shown at the age of 52. At the far right under the arch Sanssouci palace in Potsdam is visible.
