Meissen, middle of 18th cent. Desgin from 1751. Polychrome painted peasant's couple on an oval base. Man and woman in dancing pose, about to shake hands. Crossed swords in u'glaze blue. Very min. rest. H. 14,5 cm. - Depictions of Dutch peasants were quite popular around the mid 18th cent., as demonstrated in various other figures. See: Exh.cat., Das Meissner-Porzellan aus der Britzke-Sammlung, Segovia 2009, pp. 349-350. The depiction of the danse may originate from Watteau's painting 'Danse paysanne' from 1702. Another, nearly identical group can be found in the coll. Of the Victoria &Albert Museum in London (Inv.-no. C.954-1919).
