Around 1925. Bronze, gilded and ivory, carved, overall h. 58,5 cm, figure h. 45,5 cm, on base sign. 'P. Philippe', bronze under the left foot unclear marked 'P81'. - The figure 'Russian Dancer' is one of the major works of Art Deco artist Philippe. It was manufactured in different sizes and material combinations. - Lit. Bryan Carley, Art Deco and other Figures, p. 264. - French painter and sculptor, studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Antonin Larroux, exhibited at the Paris Salon. Philippe is one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco and produced mainly works in bronze and ivory as well as Chryselephantine figures of exotic and Russian dancers.
