A.v.d.N., who developed the genre of winter and night landscapes and made them most popular, is one of the most inventive masters of Dutch landscape painting. The painting at hand, from the late period of the artist, captivates by a broad brushwork, distinct local colours and a considerable tenseness. - One of the most important masters of Dutch landscape painting of the Golden Age, father of Eglon a. Johanes v.d.N. A.v.d.N. was first recorded in Amsterdam in 1630 where he set up a tavern a. a wine shop because he wasn't able to make his living by his paintings.
