Despiau, matted a. framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - French sculptor a. draughtsman, studied at the École des Arts decoratifs in Paris under H. Lemaire a. at the École des Beaux-Arts under L. E. Barrias, since 1898 he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons, his early work was inspired by Rodin, whose assistant he was since 1907, later he developed a neo-archaic style like Maillol, some of his works were exhibited posthumously at the Documenta I a. III. - Mus.: New York (MoMA), Paris u.a. - Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
