China, 19th cent. (Qing-dynasty 1644-1911). Bright painting with Indian ink and colour on silk in the manner of Qiu Ying (died after 1552). Group of 4 persons on a riverbank putting little vine cups into the water. The subject refers to the so called Gathering at the orchid"s pavillon, one of the legendary works of art in Chinese caligraphy. Without signature.
