For his extraordinary successes against the English and Dutch marine he was created nobleman in 1964. Many French man-o-wars were named after him, Theodor Fontane dedicated him a lay. - Belgian history a. portrait painter as well as sculptor, pupil of Ph. Hennequin, L. Gallait a. A.J.
