Trökes 55, on the reverse titled, inscribed "San Antonio Abad Ibiza Baleares" as well as sign. again a. dat. 7.3.55, on the stretcher inventory label of the collection Gerd Bucerius, min. pigment loss. - Prov.: Estate of Hilde von Lang, managing director and publisher of the German weekly newspaper "Die Zeit", partner in life of Gerd Bucerius, founder of "Die Zeit" and patron of the arts. - German surrealist a. abstract expressionist painter, studied 1933-36 under Johannes Itten in Krefeld, his first individual exhibition at Galerie Nierendorf in Berlin was closed by the Nazis, 1940 he continued his studies as master student of Georg Muche in Krefeld before being draught for military service, in 1947 he lectured at the Weimar university, in 1952 he emigrated to Ibiza, 1956-58 he taught at the Hamburg academy, he travelled widely, numerous awards a. exhibitions, among others at the Documenta I, II a.
