Watercolour, 23 x 10,5 cm, lo. ri. monogr. CR, matted a. framed under glass. - Authentication: Christian-Rohlfs-Archiv at the Osthaus Museum Hagen, 10th October 2011. The work is listed in the archive as no. CRA 29/11. - Important German expressionist painter, studied at the Weimar academy under P. Thumann since 1870, developed his style from naturalism to impressionism in his Weimar time, became teacher at the Folkwang university of the arts in 1901, many of his works were removed from museums as "degenerate" by the Nazis in 1937, his art was honoured posthumously at the Documenta I in 1955. - Mus.: Hamburg (Kunsthalle), Berlin, München, Karlsruhe, Düsseldorf, Essen (Folkwang-Mus.), Aachen, Hagen, Weimar a. others. - Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bénézit a. others.
