Gael, slightly rest. - The painting at hand is probably a work from the early career of the artist in the 1660 of minute execution. - Landscape a. animal painter, initially trained by his father Cornelis G., thereafter by P. Wouwerman, from whom he borrowed a predilection for white horses prominently positioned in the foreground, from the patterns of his teacher, the landscapes of C. Molenaer a. R. v. de Fries as well as the countrymen of Isaak a. Adriaen v. Ostade he developed his own pleasing style, he was one of Wouwermans most successful pupils a. his works were eagerly collected already during his lifetime. - Mus.: Haarlem (Frans-Hals-Mus.), München (Alte Pinakothek), Rotterdam (Mus.
