Proceeds : 1.000 €

C. 1924/25. Black chalk, 29 x 20 cm, inscr. lo. ri. 'M. Liebermann', some stained, on the reverse drawing of a dancer, collector's stamp, not framed. - Confirmation of authenticity by Dr. Margreet Nouwen, author of the catalogue raisonné in preparation of the pastels, watercolours and gouaches by Max Liebermann. Nouwen thinks that the 'lovers' could be a study for Goethe's poem 'Der Müllerin Reue', Liebermann made for Paul Cassirer and his 1924 edited serie of lithographs (Achenbach 78). The 'dancer' on the reverse is a study for a lithograph (Achenbach 100), titled 'nude of a dancer' and dated 1925. Lit.: Achenbach 'M.L. in seiner Zeit' (exh. cat). et.al.
