Designed in 1967, made in 1986/87. Bronze, highly polished, enamelled, on a marble base. H. 31.5 x 31.8 cm, marble base: H. 8 cm. Signed Mack, numbered copy 27/35. Superficial scratches in the baking varnish, marble base minimally chipped. Light, reflection and movement play a central role in Heinz Mack's work, including in the bronze sculpture 'Gemini-Atlas', in which the ambient light is reflected on the smooth, reflective surface of the round, geometric shape - Provenance: Acquired in 1987 from Galerie Löhrl, Mönchengladbach; Private property in North Rhine-Westphalia - German artist, co-founder of the artist's group Zero. M. studied art and philosophy in Düsseldorf and Cologne since 1950. Together with O. Piene he founded Zero in Düsseldorf in 1957. As early as 1958 he exhibited at the Documenta for the first time, in 1970 he represented Germany at the Venice Biennale. M. often uses light and motion in his artworks. He is considered to be one of the foremost innovaters of post-war art and was awarded many prizes.
