Lower right autographed and dated Piene 62, lower left numbered 192/200 e. d'a. - German painter, graphic artist and installation artist, was one of the pioneers of post-war art and a founding member of the avant-garde group Zero. P. studied at the Munich and Düsseldorf academies, later held a professorship in the USA and exhibited several times at Documenta. The elements of light and fire and their traces play a central role in his work, he created light kinetic works as well as air and light sculptures. In one of his best-known cycles 'Blue Planet', he campaigned for the preservation of our 'Blue Planet'.
