Each autographed and dated lower right Becher 71. - Bernd Becher, along with his wife Hilla, is one of the most important contemporary photographers. Both had artistic and photographic experience before they began studying at the Düsseldorf Academy, where they also met; they married in 1961. In 1976, Bernd Becher accepted a professorship in Düsseldorf, where he worked closely with his wife. Their collaborative work gave rise to the 'Düsseldorf School' which produced such significant photographers as Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Candida Höfer, and Tata Ronkholz. Architecture, and industrial buildings in particular, dominates their body of work, which has been featured in major exhibitions, including multiple appearances at Documenta.
