Geburtstag, Flensburg 1985, p. 46. - Provenance: Bought from the artist's estate 04.07.87; at last private collection Hambuerg - German landscape and portrait painter and graphic artist. In 1904, R. was a student of A. Lewin-Funke and L. Corinth in Berlin. From 1905 to 1906, he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris under M. A. Baschet; in 1910, he shared a studio in Berlin with G. Marcks and R. Scheibe. Beginning in 1911, he exhibited with the Munich Secession. In 1920, he joined the Berlin Secession and, through the intercession of M. Liebermann, became a professor at the State Art School in Berlin. This was followed in 1927 by a stay at the Villa Massimo in Rome. From 1937 to 1939, R. was a visiting professor in Santiago, Chile. During the war, he lost all of his works, which had been evacuated to Silesia along with the Berlin Academy. He moved to the vicinity of Kappeln.
