Studied at the Berlin Art Academy and the Werkkunstschule in Krefeld in the 1960s. In the 1790s he took up photography. L. became internationally known through his distinctive visual language of often black and white photographs with a focus on naturalness and personality. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing and the Kunsthal Rotterdam.
