Bronze, darkbrown patinated. H. 31,5 cm. Signed Knöppel, foundry mark H. BERGMAN CIRE PERDUE. A bear standing upright, with a lively, impressionistically rendered surface texture - A Swedish sculptor, he studied at Althin’s Art School under the sculptor Carl Fagerberg and continued his training at the Technical School and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. He was known for his animal sculptures and drawings, and maintained a sanctuary for Nordic wildlife on his farm in Värmland Mus.: Stockholm, National Museum; Stockholm, Moderna Museet; Gothenburg, Gothenburg Museum of Art; Helsingborg, Helsingborg Museum
