Designed 1884, made soon after. Bronze, dark patinated. Figure: H. 58 cm, marble base: H. 3 cm. Sigend J. Uphues, foundry mark AKT. GES. v. H. GLADENBECK u. S. BERLIN. Uphues created the ancient-inspired Archer motif in 1884 and was awarded the gold medal for it in Melbourne in 1889. The Gladenbeck bronze foundry offered it in various sizes - German sculptor. As a master student of Reinhold Begas, Uphues was an esteemed monument sculptor of the Wilhelminian era. From 1892 he had his own studio in Berlin and became a member of the Berlin Secession.
