Lower right monogrammed and dated FK 1988, verso signed, dated Fritz Köthe 1988 and titled, signed, dated and titled again on the stretcher. - A German painter and graphic artist, he is considered one of the most important German representatives of Pop Art, even though the artist himself didn't identify with this artmovement. K. attended the Berlin School of Graphic Arts beginning in 1935. In 1936, he began his studies at the State Academy of Graphic Arts in Leipzig. In the 1960s, he developed his own visual language through painted collages, in which he drew on elements and motifs from the world of advertising and transformied them into an aesthetic interplay.
