After completing an apprenticeship in forestry, H. studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden from 1977 to 1982 and has been working as a freelance artist ever since. In 1989, she was one of the co-founders of the Dresden Secession. She has received numerous awards, including the Marianne Werefkin Prize and the City of Dresden Art Prize.
